Application · Liquid-Penetrant Inspection (PT)
Liquid-Penetrant Inspection (PT)
Reveal surface-breaking defects on almost any non-porous material.
The inspection problem
PT works on materials where MT does not — stainless steels, aluminium alloys, superalloys and non-metals — and reveals fine surface cracks that visual inspection misses.
Why it matters
For aerospace, defense and safety-critical parts, PT is a standard method — provided the process (penetrant, developer, dwell, wash) is under control.
Which method fits your part?
Every method has a sweet spot and a limitation. Choose based on defect, geometry, throughput and access — not on habit.
Fluorescent PT
When it fits: High-sensitivity inspection in dedicated PT lines.
Limitations: Process control (temperature, dwell, rinse) is critical.
Visible dye PT
When it fits: Field inspection.
Limitations: Lower sensitivity than fluorescent.
Principals whose equipment solves this
Selection is driven by the application — not the other way around.
