Corrosion Mapping

Locate and quantify wall loss on pipes, tanks and pressure equipment.

The inspection problem

Wall loss driven by corrosion determines the safe operating pressure and remaining life of pressure equipment. Point thickness readings under-represent it; mapping reveals patches, pits and channels.

Why it matters

Under-detected corrosion causes leaks, shutdowns and safety incidents. Over-conservative estimates trigger unnecessary shutdowns and replacements.

Method comparison

Which method fits your part?

Every method has a sweet spot and a limitation. Choose based on defect, geometry, throughput and access — not on habit.

Ultrasonic corrosion mapping

When it fits: Detailed remaining-wall maps on accessible surfaces.

Limitations: Access and coupling; hot surfaces need special sensors.

Pulsed eddy current (PEC)

When it fits: Screening through insulation, coatings and cladding.

Limitations: Lower spatial resolution than UT.
