Porosity & Inclusion Detection

Locate, size and classify internal defects in metal components.

The inspection problem

Porosity and inclusions can be acceptable, marginal or rejectable depending on their location, size and cluster. You need a method that finds them and a criterion that sorts them.

Why it matters

The wrong decision either wastes good parts or ships bad ones. Both are expensive.

Method comparison

Which method fits your part?

Every method has a sweet spot and a limitation. Choose based on defect, geometry, throughput and access — not on habit.

Industrial CT

When it fits: 3D position and volume for quantitative acceptance criteria.

Limitations: Cycle time and part-size limits.

Digital radiography

When it fits: Faster inline or laboratory screening.

Limitations: 2D projection limits sizing accuracy.

Ultrasonic testing (UT / PAUT)

When it fits: Forgings and thick sections where X-ray is impractical.

Limitations: Requires access and coupling; interpretation depends on operator skill.
