Industrial CT Inspection of Castings

Reveal internal casting defects and verify wall thickness in a single 3D scan.

The inspection problem

Casting porosity, shrinkage and inclusions drive scrap, rework and field failures. 2D radiography sees them projected onto a plane; only CT quantifies their true 3D position, size and volume.

Why it matters

Porosity in a critical wall or near a machined face compromises structural integrity — data teams can trust decisions on scrap, rework and process changes.

Method comparison

Which method fits your part?

Every method has a sweet spot and a limitation. Choose based on defect, geometry, throughput and access — not on habit.

Industrial CT

When it fits: First-article inspection, failure analysis and dimensional CT of castings.

Limitations: Very dense or very large parts require higher energy or dedicated systems; cycle time is longer than 2D radiography.

Digital radiography

When it fits: Faster line-side screening of castings.

Limitations: Defects overlap in projection; sizing is less precise than CT.
